Spike Lee tweets back in response to concerns about the casting of his remake of Oldboy, including the problematic casting calls we posted earlier.   Lee tweeted: People You Need To Relax.The Cast Of OLD BOY Will Be Diverse.If You Think Otherwise You Do Not Know My Work.Bother Other Directors ‘Bout Dat and in response to a fan’s earlier tweet (“What’s up w/ most of the important roles in Oldboy remake asking 4 Caucasians..”) The Cast Will Be Diverse.Don’t Worry We know and respect Lee’s previous works but are still very disturbed by the casting calls. Yes, other directors are much worse.  But that doesn’t make the calls any less problematic.  So many roles were exclusively reserved for white actors.  The lead role is played by a white actor.  The only roles currently seeking actors of color are for racial stereotypes. It’s kind of hard to relax when casting calls for women of color read “drug addicted nutcases” and “mysterious exotic beauties.” EDIT:  Spike Lee just tweeted in response that “All That Stuff Has Been Changed.”   whew!
